Climate change is a problem that arises in the process of human development and can only be solved through sustainable development.

Xie Zhenhua said that in the process of modernization, China made it clear earlier that we should not take the old road of pollution first and then treatment, and explore the road of sustainable development. Since the 18th CPC National Congress, China has made remarkable achievements in green and low-carbon development. In the past 10 years, China has sustained an average economic growth of over 6% with an average annual growth rate of 3% in energy consumption. The practice in China shows that actions to protect the ecological environment and deal with climate change will not only hinder economic development, but also foster new growth momentum, create new employment opportunities and improve the quality and efficiency of development. China is willing to share its green development experience with other developing countries through South-South cooperation, do its best to help and work with all parties to promote the construction of global ecological civilization.

In February of this year, the Nobel Foundation for Sustainable Development awarded the First Special Contribution Award to Sustainable Development to Xie Zhenhua. Xie Zhenhua stated in the article that this reflects the international community's full recognition of China's promotion of global climate governance and green transformation.

In 2020, China announced at the general debate of the 75th United Nations General Assembly that China's carbon dioxide emissions should reach the peak by 2030 and strive to achieve carbon neutrality by 2060. Xie Zhenhua emphasized that this important measure strongly supports the green recovery initiative proposed by the United Nations and encourages other strong climate action targets. At present, the global trend of green and low-carbon transformation is irreversible.

Xie Zhenhua proposed that in the face of common challenges, countries around the world should strengthen dialogue and cooperation, accelerate the establishment of green, low-carbon, and sustainable production, lifestyle, and consumption models, achieve harmonious coexistence between humans and nature, and work together to take good care of humanity's Earth home.
